ABOUT THE EVENT /
The Geography and GIS program of the Department of History, Sociology, Geography & GIS at Tarleton State University will be joining thousands of GIS lovers and users around the world to celebrate GIS Day in the third week of November 2020.
GIS Day is an annual world event celebrating the technology of Geographic Information Systems that was initiated by spatial analytics world-leader ESRI, and which first took place in 1999. It is a GIS awareness day usually celebrated during the Geography week.
There will be lots of exciting activities including, invited guest speaker, geography game, GIS/mapping software demonstration, and student poster competition.

GUEST SPEAKER - Ms. Monet Alvarado
Mrs. Alvarado is the Asset Systems Analyst at City of Arlington. She has 7 years of experience of handling GIS and spatial data including:
​
1.) Captured the geospatial and attributional data for the Positive Train Control Initiative with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad using LiDAR technology.
2.) 3D modeled the I-30 corridor for the Texas Department of Transportation As-Built Assessment with LTRA Engineering Consultants.
3.) Generated flood depth grids for the City of Arlington’s stream systems using the ESRI ArcHydro toolset.
